    Miami Project 2012

    This Art Basel season saw the inaugural launch of  Miami Project 2012 in Midtown Miami from the great team of Max Fishko and Jeffrey Wainhause at artMRKT Productions .  A supremely gorgeous space with great contemporary art from the best galleries, the Miami Project delivered all that and then some.

    Having the support of MOCA North Miami as well as having cultural partners including  the Guggenheim Patrons, New Museum, Whitney Contemporaries and The Museum of Art and Design does not hurt at all.

    I am looking forward to Miami Project 2013 !

  • Kartell Miami Louis Ghost Chair 10th Anniversary Celebration

    During Design Miami 2012 Week earlier this month, the Kartell Miami Louis Ghost Chair 10th Anniversary Celebration paid tribute to Philippe Starck’s iconic design with a special in-store installation in the Miami Design District.  As the press release states:

    “Louis Ghost becomes not only a Kartell absolute best-seller but, on the strength of 1.5 million pieces sold, it is, furthermore, an icon and the most widely sold design chair in the world. This is the chair that consecrated Kartell as world leader in the production of “transparent design furnishings” and through which the aesthetic aspect of transparency became accepted globally by revealing the enormous functionality of the material. ”

    Tai Ping Carpets x Rita Motta Perez

    During Design Miami 2012, the Tai Ping Carpets x Rita Motta Perez installation at Inventory 03: Experience of a City showed that rugs can be elevated to art.   A vibrant purple creation that captured the essense of effervescing bubbles, it was truly an amazing piece to behold.

    Special thanks to Tai Ping’s fabulous Digital Marketing Manager Lauryn Soden for guiding me through this beautiful exhibition.

    Miami Design District 2012 Exhibition Tour Highlights

    This year the Miami Design District hosted a week of satellite events in conjunction with Art Basel Miami Beach and Design Miami.  The Miami Design District 2012 Exhibition brought together the worlds of  art, culture, design and fashion. I was very fortunate to be invited to take tour of the District during the week long fair festivities.

  • Pulse Miami 2012

    Pulse Miami 2012

    PULSE Miami 2012 delivered a dynamic art fair full of amazing contemporary works from artists from all over the globe.  They pretty much covered every aspect of international contemporary art. Looking for the best in emerging artists, they had IMPULSE – a section of the fair dedicated to galleries showing solo exhibits from emerging artists. Looking for innovative videos, they had PULSE PLAY, the fair’s ongoing video lounge series.  Looking for large installations, they had PULSE Projects.  The entire venue at the Ice Palace Studios was fully utilized, each section holding delights.

    So, it came as no surprise to me that the post show press release announced PULSE Miami 2012’s success:

    “PULSE Miami 2012, held from December 6-9th at the Ice Palace Studios in Miami, closed with a record number of visitors, up almost 20% from last year.Nearly 4,000 visitors passed through in the opening hours of the fair and the crowds steadily increased through Sunday. There was an overall buzz of excitement and vibrancy as multiple galleries reported significant sales on the opening day. The active selling was non-stop with particular interest from major international and U.S. museums and foundations.

    Looking forward now PULSE New York 2013 !

  • ORCHID The Show

    ORCHID The Show

    During this year’s Design Miami Week,  I had the opportunity to see the fabulous ORCHID The Show located in the  Luis Pons‘ designed Pleasure Garden site in the Miami Design District.   ORCHID is a combination Cirque du Soleil, Moulin Rouge, Las Vegas and Burlesque extravaganza  complete with  phenomenal acts and showstopping numbers.

    The Pleasure Garden also includes a sensational food and beverage program by the James Beard award winning chef, Michelle Bernstein.  I must say that they made me the best cosmopolitan I have had in South Florida !

    ORCHID is a limited run engagement, so see it before it ends on January 6th !

    Design Miami 2012: Style,Substance & Innovation

    Design Miami 2012 was a happy confluence of outstanding design galleries, glorious collaborations, rousing conversations and amazing, highly collectible pieces.

    As the latest press release states:

    “The eighth edition of Design Miami saw record attendance and robust sales throughout its six-day run in Miami, Florida from December 4-9, 2012. Thirty-six of the world’s leading galleries presented contemporary and historic design, which sold well among the 31,000 design collectors and enthusiasts who attended the fair.”
