Handling the Transition Job Interview

Recently, I have been noticing that the interview landscape is including the “transition” interview more and more. How to Deal with Being Laid Off will be for a future post since it requires way more attention.

Top 5 Tips on Handling the Transition Interview

  1. Don’t Panic – The truth is you could have been laid off right off right away; at least this way, you have a chance to keep your job with them;
  2. Preparation is the Key – Prepare yourself mentally for the changes in ksa’s (knowledge, skills and abilities), some drastic and possibly financial, that will be coming your way with this new transition position;
  3. Believe in Your Work – If you do not stand behind your previous work experience with your former company, why should the hiring team choose you for this position?
  4. Don’t Assume They Know You – I found this out the hard way in a previous job because I assumed that because I knew members of the hiring team, they would write down my accolades in the interview. Did not happen and I did not get the position. And, finally;
  5. Explain the Benefits of Keeping You in Detail – You are an asset and you need to explain in detail why. For example, by having you transition, the new company does not have to spend money bringing you up to speed from off the street

Interviewing is not always a great experience, but keep positive whatever the outcome is and Good Luck!
