Jonah Freeman + Justin Lowe Performance – The Miami Beach EDITION

One of the highlights of Art Basel Miami Beach happened this past Thursday, December 4th,  when Marlborough Chelsea presented Shadow Pool: A Natural History of the San San International, a performance by Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe featuring Black Bananas, at The Miami Beach EDITION

Guests included Ryan McGinley, Bill Powers, Waris Ahluwalia, Marilyn Minter, Jordan Wolfson, Devin Troy Strother, Leo Fizpatrick, Will Cotton, Glenn O’Brien, Nick Jonas, Daniel Heidkamp, Jules de Balincourt, Lucy Chadwick, Tripoli Patterson, Carter Cleveland, Alban de Pury, Sebastian Errazuruiz, David Zwirner, Laurence Chandler, Anne Huntington, Nathalie Karg, Pierre Levai, Capucine Milliot, Shamim Momin, Darren Romanelli.

Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe create immersive environmental installations that play on ideas of drug culture, psychedelia, architecture and film. Shadow Pool employs a mix of theatrical genres ranging from the slide lecture, the fashion show, the sculptural display, and the live musical act as a means to illustrate the fictional parallel world of the San San International, a “hallucinatory mega-convention of staggering proportions”. Conceived in 2008, this multisensory extravaganza has traveled to sites ranging from MOCA Los Angeles to Ballroom Marfa.

Freeman and Lowe’s exhibition Floating Chain (High-Res Toni) is currently on view at Marlborough Chelsea through December 20th, 2014.

The Power of Creation: Dom Pérignon
This year Dom Pérignon, always a vintage champagne, announced its exclusive new Power of Creation collaboration with Haute Couture Designer and guest member of the prestigious Parisian Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, Iris van Herpen. The limited edition collaboration is inspired by metamorphosis: signifying the closure of one period and the birth of another, and a powerful symbol of evolution, transformation and renaissance.

Dom Pérignon has long collaborated with some of the greatest creators of their time within art, fashion and design. The Power of Creation is inspired by a mutual goal to push the boundaries of their art, exploring new territory and reinventing the language of their discipline without betraying it.

Previous Power of Creation partnerships include limited editions with Jeff Koons and David Lynch, a collection designed with Marc Newson, an homage to Andy Warhol, a collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld and creative projects withRobert Wilson, Lang Lang, John Legend and Alexandre Desplat.

    Dom Pérignon:
Dom Pierre Pérignon was the procurator of the Abbey of Hautvillers in Champagne from 1668 to 1715. His life’s work was guided by the single aim to create what he named: the “best wine in the world”. Today, each new vintage of Dom Pérignon is inspired by the same quest. For every vintage is a new beginning, a reinvention. Always a vintage wine, the Dom Pérignon commitment to vintages is absolute: Dom Pérignon is made from only the best grapes and is declared only in the most exceptional years, from a single year’s harvest only. Each Vintage has three Plénitudes, and is a true act of creation that is constantly renewed by Chef de Cave Richard Geoffroy. www.domperignon.com

Dom Pérignon Limited Edition by Iris van Herpen:
Iris van Herpen, guest member of the prestigious Parisian Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, is an award-winning Dutch fashion designer and couturier renowned for her futuristic, darkly fantastical aesthetic. In 2014 she was the recipient of the coveted ANDAM Fashion Award.

Dom Pérignon Metamorphosis by Iris van Herpen also marks the end of Dom Pérignon Vintage 2004 as we know it in its first Plénitude and celebrates its pending metamorphosis into P2, or Second Plénitude of Dom Pérignon. All that we know may disappear for a time, but it will rise again – transformed and reinvented.  Van Herpen has designed two limited edition bottles and gift boxes, for the Dom Pérignon Vintage Blanc 2004 and 2003 Rosé respectively.

The Dom Pérignon Limited Edition by Iris van Herpen is available at fine wine purveyors in America.

DJ Ana Calderon spins magic at MCM x Bazaar !

Last month I was invited to the MCM x Harper’s BAZAAR: Beyond Snowdome Art Basel Miami Beach Event, celebrating the debut of the MCM limited edition collection with pop-art duo, Craig & Karl.  It offered a welcome moment of respite from the hectic madness that is Art Basel Miami Beach Week. A custom München Coconut Mojito at the sublime Soho Beach House Tiki Bar, which had been transformed into a tropical winter wonderland, filled with visual sensationalism including life-size snow-globe bag displays and larger than life graphics, revived my lagging spirits after a day full of non-stop happenings.

Hosted by CRAIG REDMAN, KARL MAIER and Harper’s BAZAAR digital director, JOYANN KING, the event was part of BAZAAR@, a series of events that brings the magazine to life in thriving epicenters of pop culture. Headquartered at Soho Beach House with private and public happenings, BAZAAR@ ART BASEL IN MIAMI BEACH included a brick-and-mortar expression of BAZAARʼs revolutionary content-to-commerce site, ShopBAZAAR.com, which sold the MCM Beyond Snowdome Collection.

  • Art Basel Miami Beach 2012 Wrap Up

Art Basel Miami Beach 2012 Wrap Up

The results are in – Art Basel Miami Beach 2012 is a mega success !  This year’s event had a record attendance of over 70,000 visitors, including 130 museum and institution groups from across the world, returning renowned private collectors from the Americas, Europe and emerging markets, and a significant number of  new collectors.

“As Art Basel marked its second decade in Miami Beach, more than 250 leading galleries from 31 countries from North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia presented the highest quality of work at the show, underlining its seriousness. Given a particularly strong representation of Modern material at the show, as well as the entry of a dynamic selection of younger galleries – including nine that were newly accepted to the fair from NADA– visitors explored 11 decades and over 110 years of art history within the Miami Beach Convention Center. Additionally, collaborations with local and international partners ensured a diverse and deep program of art events, from Art Basel Conversations and Art Salon to Art Public, Art Video and Art Film, making this edition a celebration of the artists and their galleries.”

So while most social media coverage focused on the parties, the serious business of art sales turned up a notch.  Art Basel Miami Beach 2012 proves that 10 years after it’s launch, Art Basel Miami Beach plays harder and works harder that any art fair out there.
