On Interrupt, Bleeding Rainbow’s fourth album, in which the band was able to perfectly capture the visceral raw energy of their unrelenting live show. The Foursome of Sarah Everton, Rob Garcia, Al Creedon and Ashley Arwine have stripped bare the layers that came to represent 2013’s Yeah Right. “We wanted to get back to writing more straight forward songs.” The result is 35 minutes of straight forward, dressed down, feral noisy punk-pop filled with driving melodies. Its impact is immediate and unforgiving.

Mistaken For Strangers
Hailed by Michael Moore as “one of the best documentaries about a band that I’ve ever seen” and by Pitchfork as “the funniest, most meta music movie since SPINAL TAP,” MISTAKEN FOR STRANGERS is a truly hilarious and touching film about two brothers, Matt and Tom Berninger. Matt, the lead singer of the critically acclaimed rock band The National, finally finds himself flush with success. His younger brother Tom is a loveable slacker – a filmmaker and metal-head still living with his parents in Cincinnati. On the eve of The National’s biggest tour to date, Matt invites Tom to work for the band as a roadie, unaware of Tom’s plan to film the entire adventure. What starts as a rock documentary quickly becomes a crowd-pleasing journey about family, ambition, and the creative process.
The film will make its theatrical premiere on March 25, 2014 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The gala event wouldn’t be complete without a performance from The National, so they will be on hand to celebrate with a full concert. Tickets to the March 25 Shrine Auditorium show are available here:http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/09004B900CD19E75
Mistaken for Strangers will be available in select theaters, on demand and on iTunes March 28.
Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s new book Americanah explores the ‘strange construct’ of race in the United States. “You have to learn what it means to be black in America,” she says. In the interview she tells Terry Gross about why she aspired to have straight hair living in Nigeria:
“[T]he rite of passage from girl to woman is when you can go get a relaxer and have your hair straight. I remember looking forward very much to my last day of secondary school. … When I graduated secondary school, what I really wanted to do was go straight to the hair salon and get my relaxer, so my hair would be straight. Then I came to the U.S., and … I couldn’t afford to get a relaxer at a hair salon here because I thought it was just needlessly expensive. So I went to the drugstore and bought the relaxer kit and decided to do it myself, which didn’t end well. Having then a scalp with really bad burns, I suddenly thought, ‘Why am I even doing this?’ And that’s when I stopped using relaxers. And it took a while to accept my hair for the way that it grows from my head.”
